Healthy Students Learn Better

The Health Services team includes a Licensed School Nurse and three Health Assistants. Each school building has a health office, staffed with either a health assistant or the LSN.

The Licensed School Nurse (LSN) is a Registered Nurse with a licence in school nursing.  The LSN is responsible for providing direct health care for our students as well as overseeing the health assistants.

The role of the LSN is to:

  • Educating and training health assistants to support student needs.
  • Delegating, administering, and supervising medication.
  • Assessing student health and creating personalized health plans.
  • Delivering health education and training to students and staff.
  • Participating in 504 and IEP/Evaluation meetings.
  • Referring students to community resources.

Health Assistants are certified in CPR and First Aid, and work together to meet the health needs of our students and promote wellness. The team has a unique understanding of students’ physical, social and emotional health needs and how wellness has an impact on learning.

The role of a health assistant is to:

  • Provide first aid, medications (under the direction of the LSN) and illness intervention to students.
  • Process immunization records.
  • Maintain student health records.

Emergency Health Plans are developed for children with conditions like asthma, severe allergies, diabetes, seizure disorders, or other health condition that could become an emergency at school. Please notify the School Nurse if your child has one of these health conditions and we will work together to create a plan that can help keep your child safe and healthy at school.
