In May our food service team applied to pilot Minnesota's new Harvest of the Month (HOTM) program and we were chosen as 1 of 15 districts to join the pilot cohort! This is a team effort between the Departments of Agriculture and Education, a Farm to School leadership team, artists, farmers, and these 15 Minnesota school districts. HOTM is fully funded by a USDA grant and we'll receive a stipend (plus all educational materials!) for our assistance in this cohort.
Throughout the 2021-2022 school year we'll be celebrating seasonally abundant Minnesota foods in our classrooms and cafeterias with prepared materials from the HOTM team. We'll be showcasing new recipes and taste tests, lesson plans and activities in select classrooms, and connecting with our community to bring these foods and their stories to our students.
This fall we'll be featuring apples, squash, and wild rice. In the spring we'll feature poultry, dairy, and greens.
