Welcome Superintendent Raymond!

Dear Dassel-Cokato Schools staff, students, families, and community members,

I am excited and honored to be serving as the next superintendent of Dassel-Cokato Schools.  I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know members of the staff and community In the few weeks since I’ve moved to the area and am extremely appreciative of and encouraged by the welcomings already received.  I’d like to take this time and introduce myself to those I’ve yet to meet and further introduce myself to those I have.

I grew up on the east side of Saint Paul and am the youngest of six children.  Both of my parents came from families of twelve so large family gatherings make up many of my childhood memories.  My wife, Stacy, and I have three daughters, one of which will be attending Dassel-Cokato High School this fall.  Austin was our home for the past 26 years and while we will always have friends and ties to the community we are excited for this new chapter and ready to be Chargers!

I have spent the past 26 years in education, first as a high school science teacher, then a middle school principal, followed by my previous position as the Executive Director of Human Resources for Austin Public Schools.  My career has been dedicated to ensuring all students have the opportunity to reach their goals.  As a longtime coach, educator, and administrator I believe in the ties school districts have within each community - students truly are at the heart of it all.

I am excited for the start of school, seeing busy hallways and the energy students bring to each building.  Be it in the classroom, on the field, on the stage or in the community we all have a part and role and I’m looking forward to making those connections and getting to know each of you.  After two historical years of challenges, I hope you’re anticipating this new chapter and start of school as much as I am.

Throughout the hiring process I listened and worked with the school board and multiple staff and community groups to understand priorities and desires for the future of Dassel-Cokato Schools.  As Superintendent my initial focus will be on learning and orientating. Spending time learning about and reviewing the various functional key areas within Dassel-Cokato Schools, such as the schools, facilities, departments and labor groups.  Equally important is not just meeting but building relationships with staff, students, community members, civic groups and businesses - those who all regard the school district as the pinnacle of the community.  My goal is to listen with the intent to fully understand.

Engagement is important to me as I enjoy meeting new people and will be working hard to do so.  Also, please feel free to stop me or stop by and introduce yourself as well.  Dassel-Cokato is our new home and, on behalf of my family, we’re delighted to be here!  Thank you - I look forward to meeting you all very soon.

Mark Raymond, Superintendent
